Empowering a Nation's Dreams

"to secure health, education, and welfare for my people until the green grass grows and the river flows.”

-The vision of Chief Red Cloud, upon signing the 1868 Fort Laramie Treaty

What is Red Cloud Vision?

Red Cloud Vision, a non-profit organization, is located on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in southwestern South Dakota where poverty remains inter-generationally paramount with an average unemployment rate of 73% to 85% adults that are able bodied and readily available for work, yet have no employment opportunity. The population of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation is approximately 46,000 residents comprising a total of nine district communities which are isolated from each other, and from supportive services such as a full line grocery store, financial institution, and other services offered for families to meet their basic household needs. Red Cloud Vision seeks to assist families to meet basic home needs on an emergency basis through four (4) organizational components including the Wood Chucks Project, Home Rehabilitation Project, Co-Dependency Program, and the Resource Center as the majority of the reservation residents living in a single home consist of one to four family units contributing to over-crowded living conditions. Due to over crowded living conditions family members are forced into confronting social illnesses and other contributing factors such as alcoholism, drug abuse, and co-dependency result in the inability to achieve self-sufficiency, and individual perseverance within the residents homes that may otherwise promote healthy life style choices.

Basic Needs + Support + Empowerment = Identity

Red Cloud Vision is organized by the descendents of Chief Red Cloud, for the development of the Oglala Lakota Nation. Upon signing the 1868 Fort Laramie Treaty, the vision of Chief Red Cloud was to “secure health, education, and welfare for his people until the green grass grows and the river flows.”

We have developed relationships with relatives and friends who have, and continue to support our efforts and our mission.

  • Continuing the vision of Chief Red Cloud.
  • Enhance participants’ abilities through self-identity, in order to build healthy communities, to restore a Nation.
  • Collaborate with tribal entities, cultural & spiritual groups, and other organizations to accomplish common goals.
